Cut your own wood and it will warm you twice.
This year, for my birthday, I was granted the very rare chance to enjoy one the most unique beers in the world. After an excuisite dinner at Siam Terrace, with our most righteous friends Dan and Bahia, we headed across the street to the best pub in town.. At Crane Alley, they keep a magnificent array of beers on tap, and recently they had the Dogfish Head Brewery’s 120 minute IPA on tap. Weighing in at an ass-kicking 20% alcohol by volume. This burly quasi-barley wine contains an astonishing 120 IBUs and 600 calories per 10oz serving. And by God’s balls, it was as delectable as legend holds.
It took nearly an hour and a half to consume, not simply because of it’s density, but because any faster consumption would have probably been a mortal sin in the crafter’s eye.
What was most astonishing was, despite the obsenely high IBUs, this beer was sweet and smooth. If I hadn’t been told what it was before hand, I would have sworn it was the blood of Christ… or maybe his sweet micturation after a night of heavy drinking.
It’s Friday night and I’m here in the lab. I’m not complaining. There’s something noble feeling about it. While many other people my age are out having fun, I’m here in the lab, slaving over some ancient molecules I can’t even see with my eyes. By I know they are there, without any doubt doing that thing they do so well… life.
